The purpose of this
To date, most of the information has been taken from the records collected by the church of the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. They comprise both civil and parish records for various communities in Vicenza, Italy. The information collected is for the years 1806-1815 and 1872-1889. I hope to collect additional information from local parishes for the periods both proceeding and following those years up until 1920.
In addition, I have begun collecting information from Rovigno, Istria (Rovinj in Croatian). As further explained under the Legend of Nicolo Garzotto section, it would appear that many Garzottos originated from Rovigno which, at one time, was part of the Venetian Republic. With the help of two wonderful women from the website of Gente di Mare, a document dating back to December 25, 1561 was translated. The language used is Venetian which can be best described as a cross between ancient Italian and Latin. In the document, Bortolo Garzotto was a godfather. Please use this link (Istria Garzotto) to see the document.
It is my belief that all Garzottos share a common ancestor. I hope that time, health, and availability of information will someday prove that theory to be true. For questions, comments, corrections or further information, please e-mail me at garzotto@garzottoancestry.com.
Other prominent surnames listed in this website are: Albrini, Bonato, Bortoli, Busa, Cantele, Covolo, Dalle Valle, and Tescari.
