SALCEDO DI MURE
The links to the left of this text are data extractions from the civil records of the described communities. The records were obtained from microfilms of the Church of the Latter Day Saints.
The records that are available are as follows:
Lusiana 1806-1815 and 1872 - 1889
Salcedo Di Mure 1806-1815 and 1872 - 1889
Lugo Di Vicenza 1806-1815 and 1872 -1899
I have transcribed the records in an attempt to link Garzotto families together. After reviewing the individual documents, I put the information into a computer program designed to track family trees. It is possible to create family trees as most birth, marriage, and death records will contain information about the parents of the person in question. When reviewing the appropriate page, you may click on the name to see the actual record. They are presented in jpeg format. To see the individual's family tree, click on the name in the famiglia column. These records are in Adobe format. The Adobe program can be downloaded for free from Adobe.com. To the extent that you are unable to access either, please email me and we can determine the best way to read the document.
It is important to note that information on individual names or dates may reflect information from several document and not just one. Also, most of the time, dates are not available for the grandfather's date of birth. Therefore, it was necessary for me to estimate a date. Dates provided in the various records are shown in European style vs. the English style. This means that the date is expressed in a date/month/year format vs. a month/date/year format.
As of August 22, 2008, I have found approximately 328 Garzottos born in Vicenza. These people currently comprise 45 families. I believe that many of these families are actually related, however, I have not yet found the documentation which proves that fact. For example, I have found 25 Giovannis and 25 Gio Battas. Some of those men might be the same person. I believe that with additional records, I will be able to link all Garzottos.
While I have listed Salcedo Di Mure records separately, it would seem that these Garzottos were originally from Lusiana and moved. An example would be Matteo Garzotto who was born in Covolo in 1780, was married and had his first 5 children in Covolo. He moved to Salcedo Di Mure approximately in 1818 where he had 2 more children (famiglia Antonio1755).
Lugo Di Vicenza is also listed separately. However, it would appear prior to about 1899, there were no Garzottos actually living in Lugo Di Vicenza. During this time, Garzottos from Lusiana were marrying people from Lugo Di Vicenza.Recently, I ordered a few of the films for Rovigno, Istria (currently a part of Croatia) and will begin my search of Rovigno. Prior to 1797, Istria was part of the Republic of Venice. These particular films are church records that date back to 1560s. As mentioned on the previous page, the records are written in an old Venetian dialect. My goal is to find records for Nicolo Garzotto and his family.
